Reader Comments and Reviews
Alcy is the reason I loved this book, because her voice rings so clear and true.  Not only does she make me see the things she sees, but she makes me feel the things she feels.  There's a lot going on throughout her journey as she reveals her most intimate feelings...Even though the story took place many years ago, you get the idea that parts of it could happen today, in any town where people distrust and fear each other's differences.   Koelle, reviewed for a high school literature class.

"...I read each [of your books] in one day, Thursday and Friday, while lying
in bed recuperating from minor surgery.  I was so VERY blessed. Your manner
of incorporating scripture was so unique and the applications of the
scriptures were insightful. Light Bird's Song particularly ministered to me
regarding my own marriage. I am going to reread both books, slowly this
time, looking up the scripture references and meditating on them as I go.
The timing of my reading these books was clearly God's sovereign hand.  He
is so GOOD!"  Angie, TX

A River too Deep is a delightful book that will keep the reader attention and interest.  Alcy's captivating story flows well throughout the book, making the reader wonder consistently what's going to happen next.  The setting of the book is the year 1817.  The author portrays this time period beautifully, making the reader feel as though they are present in that place with Alcy, feeling her emotions and thinking her thoughts.  The development of characters is so magnificently done that the reader cannot help but form a relationship with them.

The moral development in this story is truly inspiring.  I would recommend this fantastic book to anyone.  A River too Deep  will make the reader ponder how they are serving God, and possibly even inspire then to do more.  The author has created a historical story that will be loved for many generations to come.    Aleesha, 16, reviewed for her high school literature class

A River too Deep is not a typical historical romance novel.  Unlike most books of its genre, it is completely Christ-centered and spiritually challenging.  It truly inspires its readers to a higher place and encourages one to think more deeply to the true roots of romance.  I have honestly learned more knowledge and wisdom about becoming a godly woman from this book than I have from any pastor.  It made me think deeper about how much my obedience and submission now will affect my life later on.  Donica, age 15

The first night I started reading [A River too Deep] I couldn’t put the book down.  I would read for two hours straight till I couldn’t hold my eyes open anymore.  I was reading till 12 and 1am.  I would read during my 15min breaks at work and my 30min lunch. The same thing happened, a week later, when I read Light Bird’s Song which I just finished today.  I actually feel disappointed that the books are done.  I had grown such an attachment to the characters like they were real.

Your books came at such a right time, though.  My husband will be loosing his job soon and I know that I will need to completely trust in God to get us through this.  I know these books were put in my possession to give comfort and confirmation that God IS in control of everything. Thank you so much for writing these books.    Jen, FL

A River Too Deep captured me with the very first paragraph.  Alcy’s story is exciting, inspiring and challenging.  Her brave yet gentle heart is truly beautiful, and her character is one to be emulated by women of all ages.  Most precious of all is the intimate relationship Alcy develops with her Lord Jesus in the midst of danger and uncertainty.  She hides His Word in her heart and clings to the promises it holds.  In great leaps of faith she willingly lays her life on the alter for the glory of God.

Every time I read A River Too Deep I am challenged anew with the call to share the Good News!  This book is fabulous, and the sequel, Light Bird’s Song, is every bit as inspiring, not to mention suspenseful to the very last!”   --Reviewed by Jessica Tyree for Amapedia

How refreshing to read a Christian novel so well-written that is also a page-turner! Taking place from 1817-1837, Alcy, the main character, is authentic and transparent as she struggles to see God's hand in circumstances she would never have chosen for herself. I so appreciate the picture the author paints of life within a Native American tribe. This is historical fiction at its best. They thought they were capturing a young white woman, but Jesus was using her to capture their hearts for Him. I was very impressed with the way the author portrayed the evangelization of this people as God met them and loved them where they were while at the same time giving them the grace to examine their lives through His truth. The book is believable but unpredictable so that you can't put it down. I am grateful for the places I went and people I met through A River Too Deep.                                                                                  --Reviewed by C. Fonda for Amazon

"I received a copy...of your wonderful book and have passed it around to EVERYONE! All those everyones love it and are anxiously awaiting the sequel.  The fabulous ethos of your story was her inner growth as a lover, hearer and do-er of God's inner voice that was consistent with His Word. That experience of walking inside of her spirit as she walked out the events of her life was what made the novel such a pleasurable and spiritually uplifting read for all of us. It took us above the genre of "Christian Romance Novel" into something vastly more mature and satisfying."  Lesley, Poriya Elite, Israel.

“It has mystery, history, romance and inspiration; I could hardly put it down!”  Donna, FL

"My name is Tehilah.  I wanted to commend you on a book well written. I started reading it at 10:00 in the evening, hoping it would put me to sleep, and ended up staying up until 3:00 to finish it. I have since read it three times." Tehilah, Poriya Elite, Israel

"This story has significantly influenced the way I look at my circumstances and ministered to
me right through to the very last sentence.” Jessica, MN

"I loved the way you used words to paint a picture.  It did not matter that she lived in the
1800's, I could relate to all of her feelings and struggles. I felt like I was right there.  Her inner
dialogue about trying to live in a manner that would honor God was great.  I have never read
a book like this."  Sue, VA

I read it in a day as I could not put it down!!" Debbie, New Zealand

I thought the life lessons on trust and obedience were wonderful, and very timely!  The main
character shows us how a woman of God can get through the toughest, and seemingly,
impossible of circumstances as she keeps her eyes on Him and conducts herself according to
the Word.  It is a beautiful and inspiring story!  Angela, FL

"Thank you for this valuable, beautifully written, hard to put down masterpiece. I enjoyed

"I wanted you to know that [my husband] brought your book back [from America] for me in
May and I finished it a short time ago.  I loved the cross cultural message you so deftly
communicated and the power of clinging to God's word in EVERY circumstance.  Anyway,
thank you for blessing my life by taking me to another world and another time to see God's
character and His faithfulness in yet another dimension.  May God richly bless your efforts
and prosper them!  Let me know when the next book is finished!"  Shawna, UK

"I have to tell you the impact "A River Too Deep" has had on my daily life.  I have always
struggled with listening to God.  I pray about something and want an answer right away.  I
find it hard to be sure I am listening to what God wants for me...I have tried to be more like
[Alcy] and be patient knowing that God will answer when the time is right.  I have found
inspiration through her."  Anonymous, VA

“Adore the way her faith is woven into her thoughts,” Esther, VA

not His.'  Thank you for deepening my realization that God is always in control!" Krys, FL

“I’m already anxious for the sequel!” Wilma, FL

"I read A River too Deep on vacation and felt like I had a spiritual retreat.  The way she discerned the will of God in a personal way made me feel like I could do the same thing and live in closeness to the Lord."
Barb, Camillus NY

When I first sat down to read this book, I'll admit, my mind did wander. Yes, I said wander. Unfortunately, with moving and the other complications of daily life, I'd not had much time to read lately. So it was difficult for me to sit down and read, not just this book, but altogether.

But as I sat in my car at lunch one day, reading with the windows rolled down, and the (finally) cooler temperatures of the 80's breezing through, I was swept away into a wonderful story I never imagined I'd come upon.

See, I'm usually not one for period work. I like modern day mysteries, fiction, and action novels much more than any other works. Something fast paced with terms and areas I recognize, for it makes the reading that much easier and faster.

But as I delved deeper into the lives of Preying Eagle, Eyes-Like-Water and Hides-in-Shadows I was pleasantly transported into a story old in time, but so fresh and new. Alcy Callen has no idea that her life will not turn out like she planned. And when one horrible event occurs and she is convinced it could become no worse, her circumstance change so drastically, she is sure it is the end for her. And in a sense, she's right. It is the end for Alcy Callen. But it is also the beginning of so much more.

Reading this book reminded me of why it is I love to read. And why reading on your lunch hour is not the smartest thing, at least for me. As my hour came to a close, I dreaded the closing of the book. For while I knew that the characters would be waiting patiently for me when I opened it again, my mind simply did not want to return to the year 2008 or the work that awaited me at my desk.

I'd like to personally thank Sydney for this wonderfully delightful journey. It did indeed bless my heart.

sydney...God is using this book...alcy..preying eagle..to awaken me, heal...love...

i've been trying to figure out what words to use to try and communicate to you how deeply affected i have been by this book.  hoping some eloquent paragraph would just find itself inside my thoughts...but all i really have today is ...whoa.  perhaps i read too much into a sweet storyline, full of beauty, love and Truth...but i know and trust that the reasons i'm so moved by this book go beyond your amazing gifts as an author. so to say that i loved your book would be a gross understatement :)  it has left imprints on my heart that i hope i never lose :)  thank you.  Amy, FL
